About NCNA

The National Council of Nonprofit Associations (NCNA) is a network of 37 established and 15 emerging state and regional associations of nonprofits serving over 22,000 member nonprofits. NCNA links local organizations to a national audience through state associations and helps small and mid-sized nonprofits:

  • Manage and lead more effectively.

  • Collaborate and exchange solutions.
  • Save money through group buying opportunities.
  • Engage in critical policy issues affecting the sector.
  • Achieve greater impact in their communities.


What We Do

NCNA’s Programs and Services include:

  • Public Policy: NCNA tracks, analyzes, and informs it members and the public about key legislation and regulations affecting the nonprofit sector. NCNA also leads public policy campaigns to influence state and national legislation. NCNA’s public policy platform is outlined in Nonprofit Agenda: A Blueprint for Action.
  • Technical Assistance and Tools: NCNA provides technical assistance to state association members and the general public through direct requests for assistance, conference calls, and tools, such as a contact management database and website hosting. The NCNA website, www.ncna.org, is also a clearinghouse for information and resources for and about state associations and the sector.
  • Publications: NCNA publishes What You Need To Know, its member e-newsletter; SPARC Change, a policy newsletter; and Tool Kits on topics such as Evaluation, Public Policy, and Media Relations.Capture economies of scale to provide lower-cost goods and services to nonprofits.
  • Research: NCNA conducts research and analyzes information to communicate the value of state associations and the nonprofit sector. Projects include the Member Mapping Survey and State of the Sector reports.
  • Special Events: NCNA hosts an annual Member Meeting to bring state association leaders together to chart a course for the network and the sector. NCNA also participates in numerous events with national and state partners.
  • GenNP: NCNA coordinates Generation NonProfit, a leadership development program designed to build the skills and networks of individuals new to state associations.
  • Group Buying Programs: NCNA negotiates with vendors to provide discounted products and services to state associations and their members. 
  • Thought Leader: NCNA is a valued resource to congressional leaders, national peers, and the media and is regularly sought out for its informed and objective analysis of the charitable sector.
